When you’re staring down a miles-long to-do list, it can feel incredibly overwhelming. It’s hard to get started when it seems like your list of tasks will never end! But with a few effective automation strategies, you can increase your productivity and stop stressing out about all that needs to get done.

Here are four automation strategies to take your marketing efforts from “overwhelming” to “checked off.”

  • Think of a task that takes a ton of time but isn’t in your sphere of genius. Maybe it’s managing the marketing inbox, updating Instagram, or managing sponsors and affiliates. Could you either pass that task off to a particular employee or outsource it to a freelancer? It can be intimidating to hand off tasks you know you can handle yourself, but by doing so, you can free up your time and energy for things you need to be tackling.
  • Utilize a planning app. Whether it’s Meet Edgar, Hootsuite, or a different scheduler, now’s the time to find an app that can automatically process and post your social media posts. You don’t need to be knee-deep in social media all day long, and posting on social media sites can be a major time-suck. Automate your social media to save a ton of time each week.
  • Embrace time blocking. Take a couple of hours—the same ones each week—to schedule social media posts, write out sales funnel e-mails, focus on content marketing, or network. By focusing on one task at a time instead of switching back and forth, you’ll save yourself the time you waste by refocusing your brain. You’ll be amazed at how productive you can be. And when you know that you spend every Tuesday morning replying to networking e-mails, you won’t have that paralyzed feeling of “What should I do next?”
  • Create automatic e-mail responses. When someone sends a particular type of e-mail, like an initial inquiry or interview request, have an automatic e-mail reply sent asking for specific information. It will save you time from having to retype the same things over and over, and it will also make people feel more heard—it’s better to receive an automatic e-mail immediately than never hear back because the person receiving the e-mails got stressed out. This is a task that won’t take too long up front but will save you major time in the long run.
